A user guide for the Mendeley reference management software


Mendeley is a free cross-platform reference manager and academic social network that serves as an information system to support research. It can help you discover, access, manage and share references and research data, collaborate with others online, showcase your latest research, find funding, and identify career opportunities.


How to get started with Mendeley?

To use Mendeley, you must first create a Mendeley account:
  • Go to the Mendeley website.
  • Click on Create account located above.
  • Enter your BUE email address, then press Continue.
  • Enter your first and family names, set your password then press Register.
  • Press Continue to Mendeley.
  • Select your current role and field of study and press Continue to Mendeley.

You Mendeley account is ready, now download and install the Mendeley requirements.

How to Set up Mendeley Software?

(Mendeley Cite is compatible with Microsoft Office 365 and office 2016 and above and with the Microsoft Word app for iPad®).

  • Download Mendeley Reference Manager. A free web and desktop reference management application that will help you getting the most out of what Mendeley can offer. 

  • Download Mendeley Cite Add in to insert citations and bibliographies into your Word document for the materials that you’ve added to your Mendeley library.
